In 2022, CW partners Kathleen Erskine and Roya Ladan secured a complete defense verdict in favor of their client, United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), following an 11-day jury trial in Los Angeles Superior Court on claims of retaliation under various legal theories and constructive wrongful termination. One year before trial, CW had secured a dismissal of the plaintiff’s gender-based and sexual harassment claims and claims of violations of the Ralph Civil Rights Act and the Tom Bane Civil Rights Act brought against UTLA and two individual defendants. After trial, the plaintiff challenged the summary judgment rulings. The case headed to California’s Second District Court of Appeal, where CW achieved a unanimous ruling in the clients’ favor.
